I see the term adverse pressure gradient in many papers in fluid flows involving swirl. I have looked every where but I can not figure out what is adverse and favorable pressure gradients. What is meant by these terms? Adverse means unfavorable. What may be favorable for me might not be favorable for any one else. It is a relative term what does it has to do with pressure gradients!
